Why Trump Must Continue the Indictment of CAIR After Obama’s Globalist Red-Green Axis Loyalties Halted the Case

As a former Executive Director of CAIR-Columbus and a past President of the Muslim Forum of Utah, I’ve had a front-row seat to the inner workings of organizations like the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). With my background as an Iranian-American ex-Muslim, former socialist, and now a Christian conservative member of the LDS Church, I see, with perhaps unique clarity, why President Trump must revive efforts to investigate and prosecute CAIR. Years ago, the Bush administration found substantial evidence linking CAIR to Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood, and global networks promoting extremist Islamist ideologies. However, after years of investigation, President Obama’s administration, with its alignment to a troubling alliance of globalist and leftist ideologies—the “red-green axis”—failed to push CAIR’s trial forward, effectively halting the indictment process and leaving the American public vulnerable.
The Background: CAIR and the Hamas Connection
During the Holy Land Foundation trial in 2007-2008, CAIR and several other organizations were named as unindicted co-conspirators in funding Hamas, a designated terrorist organization known for its violent activities against both Israelis and Palestinians who oppose its rule. The evidence presented at this trial—one of the most significant terror-financing cases in U.S. history—made it clear that CAIR’s links to Hamas extended beyond mere association. Documents revealed that CAIR had acted as a front for the Muslim Brotherhood, whose goal was to establish an Islamic caliphate, undermining Western democracies from within.
Despite the evidence, the Obama administration inexplicably declined to bring CAIR to trial. Former FBI Director Robert Mueller even barred field agents from engaging with CAIR, effectively halting any meaningful investigation. It was a shock to many within the intelligence and national security communities who understood the danger of leaving such organizations unchecked.
The Globalist “Red-Green Axis” and Obama’s Intervention
Obama’s choice to halt CAIR’s indictment fits into a broader context often described as the “red-green axis,” a term referring to the unholy alliance between leftist (red) and Islamist (green) factions that work together to weaken national boundaries and promote ideologies hostile to traditional Western values. This alignment is a classic example of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Globalist elites and leftist movements increasingly support Islamist groups, viewing them as tools to disrupt national unity and erode sovereignty. Obama’s loyalty to this red-green alliance made him reluctant to pursue organizations like CAIR, despite the national security risks.
Had the Obama administration allowed the indictment process to move forward, CAIR would have been required to register as a foreign agent of Hamas. The Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) exists to protect the United States from foreign interference, ensuring that entities operating in America are transparent about their connections and funding sources. CAIR’s documented relationship with Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood more than meets the FARA criteria for mandatory registration. Failing to enforce this requirement has allowed CAIR to masquerade as a civil rights organization, with access to American institutions, lawmakers, and media platforms to push a dangerous agenda under the guise of community advocacy.
Why Trump Must Act: Reviving National Security and Protecting Americans
For America to preserve its sovereignty and protect its citizens from radical ideologies, it’s crucial that Trump continue efforts to bring CAIR to justice. He must uphold the rule of law and complete the prosecution started during the Bush administration. Holding CAIR accountable will demonstrate that foreign-influenced organizations masquerading as civil rights advocates cannot undermine the country’s legal framework without consequence.
Requiring CAIR to register as a foreign agent of Hamas would be a significant step toward transparency, as it would force the organization to disclose its activities, funding sources, and international connections. Such transparency would reveal to Americans that CAIR’s advocacy is not merely a defense of Muslim civil liberties but an agenda aligning with the objectives of a foreign organization actively working against U.S. interests. Furthermore, it would provide a clear message to similar organizations that seek to exploit the freedoms afforded by the U.S. Constitution while advocating for ideologies that oppose those very freedoms.
In these times of political upheaval, Trump has the opportunity to stand firm against the red-green axis. Unlike Obama’s administration, which placed ideology and globalist loyalties above national security, Trump can prioritize America’s safety and uphold the integrity of our democratic institutions.
Conclusion
The failure to prosecute CAIR during Obama’s tenure represents a profound betrayal of American interests. CAIR’s connections to Hamas and its longstanding role in promoting Islamist agendas across the United States make it clear that this organization operates as a foreign agent. It is time for Trump to resume this investigation, enforcing FARA requirements, holding CAIR accountable, and defending the American people from organizations that seek to undermine our nation from within. For a country founded on freedom and transparency, enforcing the rule of law is not optional—it is essential.
