Nazis in Ukraine’s Army and Militia: How $350 Billion in U.S. Aid is Funding Extremists

Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, the United States has sent over $350 billion in military and financial aid to Ukraine, ostensibly to support its fight against Russian aggression. However, troubling evidence suggests that a portion of this aid has been funneled to extremist groups, including neo-Nazi factions within Ukraine’s military and militias. While the mainstream media largely ignores this reality, the presence of ultra-nationalist groups like the Azov Battalion, Right Sector, and other far-right militias within Ukraine’s armed forces has been well-documented by reputable sources, including Western governments and media prior to 2022.

The Azov Battalion and Neo-Nazi Affiliations

One of the most notorious examples is the Azov Battalion, a paramilitary group that was officially integrated into Ukraine’s National Guard in 2014. Azov's origins are deeply tied to neo-Nazi ideology, with its founders openly espousing white supremacist beliefs and using Nazi symbols, including the Wolfsangel, a symbol linked to Hitler’s SS divisions.[1] Even the FBI has flagged Azov for its connections to extremism and the training of white supremacist terrorists.[2] Before 2022, major news outlets like The Guardian and The New York Times repeatedly warned about the dangers of arming such groups.[3] Yet, after Russia’s invasion, these same outlets shifted their narratives, whitewashing Azov as patriotic defenders of Ukraine.

Billions in U.S. Aid With No Oversight

The Biden administration has poured billions into Ukraine with minimal oversight, allowing funds and weapons to flow into the hands of these extremist militias. Reports from organizations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have detailed war crimes committed by Ukrainian forces, including the execution of Russian POWs and the use of civilian areas for military operations.[4] Furthermore, classified documents leaked in 2023 revealed U.S. intelligence concerns over the proliferation of Western arms to groups like Azov and their potential use outside of Ukraine.[5]

The Role of the Ukrainian Government

Despite Western claims that Ukraine has “de-Nazified” its military, the Ukrainian government actively collaborates with these groups. High-ranking Ukrainian officials, including Oleksiy Arestovych, a former adviser to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, have admitted that these militias play a crucial role in Ukraine’s war effort.[6] Even Ukrainian state-run media outlets have promoted figures with far-right ties, demonstrating the regime’s willingness to embrace these elements for the sake of their military ambitions.

How U.S. Taxpayer Dollars Are Empowering Neo-Nazis

American taxpayers should be outraged that their hard-earned money is being funneled into the hands of these extremists. The $350 billion in aid includes lethal weapons, training, and financial support that directly benefit groups with Nazi affiliations. The U.S. government has failed to put adequate safeguards in place to prevent military aid from strengthening radical factions within Ukraine’s forces.

Conclusion: The Need for Accountability

The American people deserve full transparency regarding where their tax dollars are going. The U.S. should not be supporting a foreign military that harbors and legitimizes neo-Nazi groups. Congress must demand greater oversight and accountability, ensuring that U.S. aid does not contribute to extremism abroad. If America truly opposes fascism, it cannot continue funding Ukrainian forces that openly embrace it.
