Why Liberals Might Need a Dose of Their Own Medicine

Why Liberals Might Need a Dose of Their Own Medicine

By Bobby Darvish - darvishintelligence.blogspot.com

Sometimes, when I speak with Democrats, leftists, and liberals, I’m struck by how disconnected they are from the harsh realities of the policies they claim to support. As an Iranian-American ex-Muslim, now a Christian and a member of the LDS Church, I’ve lived through the consequences of socialist and Islamist governance. I know firsthand what it’s like to be marginalized, persecuted, and stripped of freedoms in the name of “social justice” and “ideological purity.” Yet, when I see liberals here rallying for figures like Kamala Harris, who openly admires socialism and cozies up to Islamism, I can’t help but think: maybe they need to experience it themselves to understand.

There are days I wonder if the only way they’ll grasp the dangers of their ideals is by enduring the kind of oppression we suffered in Iran. When we fled Iran, we left behind a regime that jailed, tortured, and even executed its own people, enforcing submission through fear and violence. Much like what Kamala Harris and her leftist colleagues applaud, these regimes wear the mask of justice but deliver tyranny. Perhaps some here need a taste of the bitter medicine they’re prescribing for America, to truly see the horrific outcomes that accompany socialist and Islamist agendas.

But then I remember: I live here too. This is my country now, the land where I found freedom, security, and faith. And I don’t want to see the America I love become an echo of the oppressive regimes I left behind. Watching the path our leftists are taking makes me think I’d rather live under Putin in Russia than under Harris here in America. At least in Russia, people’s basic needs are met, and no one is marginalized simply for being white, Christian, or capitalist. It’s ironic: everything they accuse Trump of doing (claims that are wildly exaggerated or outright false) is happening in Iran under the socialist-Islamist government.

The Reality of Socialist-Islamist Regimes
My memories of Iran aren’t abstract political ideas—they’re lived experiences of what happens when the government enforces its ideology with a heavy hand. In Iran, where socialism and Islamism merged to form a tyrannical regime, the results were disastrous. Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, and Baha'is are oppressed for their faith, while ordinary Iranians are persecuted simply for desiring basic freedoms. The economy is in shambles, civil liberties are non-existent, and dissent is met with jail cells and torture chambers. I watched these horrors unfold in my own country, and it pains me to see leftists in America championing similar ideologies.

Kamala Harris and the Allure of Socialism
Kamala Harris, with her sympathies toward socialist ideals, and many in the Democratic Party seem to ignore the catastrophic effects that socialism has had around the world—from Iran to Venezuela, from the Soviet Union to North Korea. Instead, they point fingers at Trump, accusing him of authoritarianism and oppression while failing to recognize their own double standards. It is not Trump who oppresses people for their beliefs, for wanting to be self-reliant, or for holding traditional values; it’s leftists like Harris who push agendas that marginalize anyone who doesn’t conform to the socialist worldview. They demand compliance with their woke ideals, while branding any dissent as "bigotry" or "hate."

Irony and Hypocrisy in Liberal Ideals
The irony here is stark. The leftists who advocate for “inclusion” and “diversity” are quick to cancel, silence, and persecute anyone who doesn’t share their beliefs. They proudly support policies that undermine the foundations of freedom—policies that threaten to drive this country down the same path as Iran. Everything the left accuses Trump of—a supposed "tyrant," a "racist," and a "divider"—is exactly what Iran’s regime does daily. In reality, Trump’s leadership emphasized sovereignty, prosperity, and lawfulness. Iran, however, is a model of socialist and Islamist tyranny—a system that Harris and her allies might admire from afar but that would bring untold suffering if implemented here.

Freedom and Faith in America: A Warning
As an Iranian-American Christian, I know that America’s freedoms are precious, and that maintaining them requires vigilance. I didn’t leave Iran and convert to Christianity to find myself under a regime here that would punish me for my faith and my beliefs. Leftists may think they’re championing justice and equality, but their ideals threaten to erode the freedoms that make America exceptional. Socialism and Islamism destroy societies from within, targeting the family, religion, and individual freedom—all things that make a society strong, cohesive, and truly free.

Conclusion: A Call to Wake Up
America needs to understand that the same socialist and Islamist ideologies celebrated by some on the left have real-world consequences. I’ve lived through them, and I can’t stand by while my new country is pulled in the same dangerous direction. I urge liberals to look beyond their ideals and understand the practical outcomes of their policies. Freedom is fragile; once lost, it’s nearly impossible to regain. It’s time to stop romanticizing socialism and Islamism and recognize them for the threats they are. This isn’t just political rhetoric; it’s a warning from someone who’s seen it happen before.
