Why America Should Be Proud of Supporting Trump, Not Ashamed – An Iranian-American Ex-Muslim Christian Conservative Perspective

The sentiment expressed by many, that America should be "ashamed" of electing President Trump, is one that I fundamentally reject. As an Iranian-American, a former Muslim, and a committed Christian conservative, I view Trump’s leadership as a triumph of the very values that made America a beacon of freedom, prosperity, and hope. To label his election as a victory for “bigotry, racism, misogyny, and fascism” is to ignore the deeper reality of his policies and the patriotic motivations of his supporters.
This criticism assumes that anyone who voted for Trump is morally deficient, careless about the welfare of minorities, women, and children, and ignorant of America’s values. However, this perspective overlooks the many reasons Trump’s supporters – many of whom are dedicated family members, compassionate neighbors, and contributors to their communities – chose him as their representative. Below, I address each of the specific accusations against Trump and explain why his policies and character actually resonate with those of us who are committed to America’s founding principles and the flourishing of all its people.
Trump’s Alleged Bigotry and Racism
Trump has been frequently accused of harboring racist views and policies, yet a closer look at his record reveals a dedication to lifting up Americans of all backgrounds. For example, his administration achieved historically low unemployment rates for African American, Hispanic, and Asian communities before the pandemic hit. Trump’s tax cuts and deregulation strategies led to a booming economy that benefitted millions of Americans, not just the wealthy. Under Trump, funding for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) was also made permanent, showing his commitment to minority educational advancement. Is it truly “racist” to prioritize policies that bring economic and educational benefits to minority communities?
Trump’s Alleged Misogyny
Trump’s critics often portray him as a threat to women’s rights, but in reality, his administration advanced several policies beneficial to women. Under Trump, women in the workplace saw wage growth, and his economic policies supported small businesses – many of which are owned and operated by women. Additionally, his administration took steps to combat human trafficking, a crisis affecting predominantly women and children. These efforts demonstrate Trump’s concern for women's welfare and success, contradicting the claim that he is dismissive or hostile to women’s rights.
Trump’s Approach to Sexual Minorities and the Disabled
The accusation that Trump was an adversary to the LGBTQ community ignores his administration’s focus on international issues that affect human rights globally. His administration was the first to actively campaign for the decriminalization of homosexuality worldwide. While his policies might not align with all liberal views on LGBTQ+ issues, the claim that he actively sought harm is overstated.
Regarding disability rights, Trump took steps to support initiatives focused on increasing accessibility and job opportunities for Americans with disabilities. For example, the Department of Labor under his administration promoted inclusive workplace policies, helping disabled Americans find meaningful employment.
A Vision for Future Generations
As a father and a former leader within the Muslim community, I care deeply about the future of America’s youth. Trump’s emphasis on law and order, educational reform, and economic prosperity is, in my view, aligned with the needs of future generations. Contrary to the criticism, his policies were not driven by “closed-minded beliefs, greed, or ignorance.” Instead, Trump’s supporters see him as a defender of traditional American values: personal responsibility, freedom from oppressive government, and economic opportunity for all.
Furthermore, Trump’s policies aimed to protect children from ideologies and influences that many parents find concerning. His administration fought against indoctrination in schools and stood up for parental rights, recognizing the family as the fundamental unit of society.
Conclusion: Pride in America’s Choice
In my experience, Trump’s election was a return to the core values that define America’s strength and promise. It is possible to care deeply for minorities, women, children, and future generations while also supporting Trump’s vision for the country. This vision is one of economic empowerment, national pride, and a government that serves the people rather than controls them.
We should be proud, not ashamed, of choosing a leader who sought to uphold America’s best values. To those who feel disheartened or fearful, I invite you to look at Trump’s actual record, not just the media’s portrayal of him. There is reason to hope for America’s future, and as conservatives, we believe in building that future with resilience, integrity, and respect for our fellow citizens.
