The Leftist Babykillers: Why Promoting Abortion is Bad for America

As an Iranian-American ex-Muslim, former vegan, and Christian conservative, I’ve seen many perspectives throughout my life. From the time I spent as the executive director of CAIR-Columbus to my leadership role in the Muslim Forum of Utah, I've observed how deeply divisive issues such as abortion have become in America. Now, as a proud member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), I stand firmly against abortion, which I believe is a grave moral wrong. In this article, I will address the dangerous agenda of the leftist "babykillers" who continue to promote abortion as a solution to unwanted pregnancies, and why their stance is harmful to America’s future.
The Culture of Death
Abortion, in its essence, is the taking of an innocent life. From the moment of conception, life begins. The heart beats at approximately 22 days, and the baby can feel pain as early as 20 weeks. These facts are ignored by those who advocate for the destruction of unborn children. The leftist narrative has twisted the reality of abortion into a so-called “right” that must be protected at all costs, ignoring the devastating consequences it has for both the unborn and society at large.
Those on the left who push for unrestricted access to abortion are not just promoting a policy—they are advocating for a culture of death. This isn’t a hypothetical statement; the statistics are real. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2020 alone, over 930,000 abortions were performed in the United States. This represents nearly a million lives lost, most of whom never had the chance to take their first breath.
A Society in Decline
America was founded on principles that celebrate life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The right to life, as outlined in the Declaration of Independence, is a bedrock principle. But when the left seeks to make abortion a universally accessible option, they undermine the very foundation of our nation. The debate over abortion isn't just a political issue; it’s a moral one. When we allow the killing of unborn children, we are signaling that life is expendable. This type of moral decay weakens the societal fabric and leads to a greater devaluation of human life.
The push for abortion doesn’t stop at legalizing it; it involves efforts to normalize it, making it a "reproductive right" that must be defended at all costs. But what happens when we stop valuing life from its earliest stages? What message does it send to future generations? We are setting a dangerous precedent. A society that dismisses the value of life will ultimately lose its sense of humanity, and we can see this in the growing number of violent crimes, mental health crises, and general disregard for others' lives in America.
Abortion Hurts Women
While proponents of abortion claim to be champions of women’s rights, they fail to consider the psychological, emotional, and physical toll that abortion can have on women. As a former vegan, I was once a staunch advocate for protecting the "rights" of animals, but I failed to recognize the sanctity of human life—particularly the lives of unborn children. Women who undergo abortions often experience feelings of guilt, regret, and sorrow afterward, even if they aren’t immediately vocal about it. Many women feel pressured to abort due to societal expectations, financial strain, or a lack of support from those around them.
There are also physical risks associated with abortion, including complications such as hemorrhage, infection, and even infertility. These are often glossed over in discussions about the procedure. The left’s agenda doesn’t focus on women’s health; it focuses on expanding access to a procedure that comes with real risks. It’s time we recognize that true empowerment for women lies not in abortion, but in creating a society that supports women, provides alternatives to abortion, and respects both their health and their role as mothers.
The Church's Stance on Life
As a Christian, I am guided by the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which firmly opposes abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is in danger. The doctrine teaches that life is sacred, and that we have a responsibility to protect the unborn. The LDS Church has consistently advocated for policies that protect life, and it is clear to me that this stance is rooted in both faith and common sense.
In my personal journey from being an Imam to embracing Christianity, I’ve come to understand the importance of life in a way that transcends religious and political affiliations. I now know that life is a divine gift, and we must protect it at all costs, especially when it comes to the most vulnerable among us—the unborn.
A Call to Action
America faces many challenges today, but abortion is one issue where we can make a profound difference. It is up to each one of us—Christians, conservatives, and patriots—to stand up for the unborn. We must support candidates who will fight to end abortion, push for policies that offer support to women and families, and work to rebuild a society that values life above all else.
As an Iranian-American who has lived through my own trials, I know the importance of life and liberty. We cannot let a generation of unborn children be sacrificed on the altar of convenience and ideology. It’s time to stop listening to the leftist babykillers and start building a society that cherishes the sanctity of life. America’s future depends on it.
