I have always been fascinated by the contradictions that emerge from modern leftist ideology. One of the most glaring hypocrisies is the way society treats 18-year-olds, particularly in relation to responsibility and adulthood. We send young men and women off to war at 18, expecting them to face combat, endure suffering, and even die for their country. Yet, when an 18-year-old woman—a legal adult—chooses to marry and start a family, the left derides her as a "child bride." This is yet another example of the irrational and destructive influence of woke ideology on our culture.
The Double Standard of Adulthood
The progressive left constantly manipulates language and redefines reality to fit its ideological narrative. The United States government and military recognize 18-year-olds as full adults, granting them the ability to enlist, carry firearms, and engage in combat. Yet, when an 18-year-old woman exercises her autonomy by marrying a man and starting a family, the same voices that defend their ability to fight in wars suddenly treat her as a helpless child.
This contradiction is not just absurd—it is dangerous. It reveals the left’s deep-seated hostility toward traditional family structures and gender roles. The progressive agenda does not oppose young adults making life-altering decisions; it only opposes young adults making decisions that uphold traditional values.
The War on Marriage and Family
The left’s attack on young marriage is part of a broader war on the nuclear family. They promote careers, promiscuity, and abortion as the ultimate forms of female empowerment while discouraging the most natural and essential aspects of womanhood: marriage and motherhood. By branding young married women as "child brides," they seek to delegitimize heterosexual, monogamous relationships and replace them with feminist, government-dependent lifestyles.
Yet, history shows that stable families—not career-driven individualism—form the backbone of any thriving society. The great civilizations of the past were built by young, strong families who married early and raised children with traditional values. It is no coincidence that birth rates are plummeting in Western nations as the left pushes anti-family propaganda.
Woke Hypocrisy on Responsibility
The woke left argues that an 18-year-old is mature enough to vote, join the military, and make irreversible medical decisions regarding gender transition. Yet, when it comes to marriage—a commitment that has existed since the dawn of civilization—they suddenly become helpless victims in need of government intervention. This is pure ideological inconsistency.
Conservatives understand that adulthood comes with responsibility. If an 18-year-old is trusted to carry a rifle in battle, they should be trusted to build a home and start a family. The left’s infantilization of young women is not about protecting them—it is about controlling them. When women embrace traditional roles, they become less reliant on the state and more invested in their families and communities. That is why the left demonizes marriage while celebrating promiscuity, abortion, and government dependency.
The Need for Cultural Reformation
If we are to restore sanity in our society, we must reject the woke double standards that undermine the foundations of civilization. Marriage and family should be encouraged, not vilified. An 18-year-old who chooses to serve in the military should be celebrated, just as an 18-year-old who chooses to marry and have children should be respected.
It is time to stop allowing woke ideologues to dictate what adulthood means. The truth is clear: if 18-year-olds are old enough to die for their country, they are old enough to marry and build the next generation. The real "childish" behavior comes not from young married adults but from those who seek to tear down the very institutions that make society strong.
