Why the LDS Church Should Never Give Into the Woke Cult and Its Sodom and Gomorrah Ideology

By Bobby Darvish, Iranian-American Ex-Muslim, Former Vegan, Former Democrat, Former Socialist, Former CAIR-Columbus Executive Director, Former Muslim Forum of Utah President, Christian Conservative LDS Priest

In today’s world, the woke cult is demanding absolute submission from all institutions—governments, schools, corporations, and yes, even churches. They claim their ideology is about inclusivity, tolerance, and equality, but in reality, it is a godless, Marxist movement that seeks to erase traditional values, destroy the nuclear family, and force Christianity into submission. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) must never bow to this false religion, which promotes an ideology as wicked as the days of Sodom and Gomorrah.

The scriptures are clear: societies that embrace sexual perversion, moral decay, and rebellion against God’s commandments are destined for destruction. Just as Sodom and Gomorrah were consumed by fire from heaven (Genesis 19:24-25), so too will any nation or institution that forsakes divine law in favor of woke ideology. The LDS Church must remain a beacon of truth in a darkening world, refusing to compromise on doctrine, no matter the political or cultural pressure.

The Woke Cult is the New Great and Spacious Building

In 1 Nephi 8, the Prophet Lehi’s vision of the Tree of Life describes the Great and Spacious Building, where the prideful mock the righteous and call them to join in their wickedness. The woke cult is today’s equivalent—it is a movement driven by arrogance, rebellion, and scorn for God's laws.

  • The woke mob demands that the Church accept same-sex marriage in direct defiance of God’s revealed plan for families (Doctrine & Covenants 132:19-20).
  • They push gender ideology that contradicts God’s creation of male and female (Genesis 1:27).
  • They pressure the Church to accept abortion, despite the clear teachings on the sanctity of life (2 Nephi 9:6).
  • They attack the family structure, encouraging degeneracy and promoting lifestyles that lead to misery instead of eternal joy.

Giving in to the woke cult is not compassion—it is spiritual surrender to the adversary.

Christ’s Church is Built on Eternal Truth, Not Political Trends

The LDS Church is not a social club, nor is it a political institution designed to conform to the shifting winds of public opinion. It is the restored Church of Jesus Christ, built on eternal truth, not fleeting ideologies.

1. God’s Laws Are Unchangeable

"For I am the Lord, I change not" (Malachi 3:6).
God’s commandments are eternal. The Church has stood firm against polygamy when the U.S. government pressured it and against racial discrimination long before the civil rights movement made it popular. Just as the Church did not cave in those instances, it must never compromise on the definition of marriage, gender, or morality.

2. The Church is Not Here to Please the World

"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you" (John 15:18).
Christ warned that true disciples would be hated for upholding righteousness. The woke movement thrives on coercion, seeking to silence those who stand for biblical truth. The moment the Church compromises, it ceases to be the pillar of truth and becomes just another worldly institution.

3. The Family is Central to God’s Plan

The Proclamation on the Family makes it clear:

"Marriage between man and woman is ordained of God, and the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children."

The woke cult rejects the divine family structure, replacing it with fatherless homes, gender confusion, and hedonistic lifestyles. If the LDS Church were to embrace these false doctrines, it would be betraying God’s eternal plan.

The Consequences of Apostasy: A Warning from History

Whenever a civilization embraces moral degeneracy, it falls. This is not opinion—it is a pattern seen throughout history.

Sodom and Gomorrah: A Lesson in Judgment

Genesis 19 describes how Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of their sexual immorality, violence, and rejection of God's messengers. The Lord did not tolerate their wickedness, and He will not tolerate today’s modern equivalents.

The Fall of Rome: A Society Consumed by Hedonism

The Roman Empire collapsed, in part, because of its embrace of sexual perversion, moral decay, and destruction of family values. The parallels to modern woke ideology are chilling.

Modern Apostate Churches: The Path to Irrelevance

Mainline Protestant denominations that have embraced woke ideology—such as the Episcopal Church and the United Church of Christ—are dying rapidly because they have abandoned truth in favor of progressive trends. The LDS Church must never follow their example.

The Saints Must Stand Firm: No Compromise with Babylon

The Lord has always called His people to stand apart from the world:
"Come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord" (2 Corinthians 6:17).

What Can We Do?

  1. Refuse to Accept Woke Lies – Do not be intimidated by the world’s pressure to conform. Speak the truth boldly.
  2. Teach the Next Generation – Ensure that our children are grounded in the scriptures and in the principles of the Restored Gospel.
  3. Defend the Family – Fight against the normalization of degeneracy in schools, media, and society.
  4. Support Righteous Leaders – Elect and sustain leaders who defend Christian values and reject the woke agenda.
  5. Be Courageous – The world will call us bigots, extremists, and backward, but we must stand strong.

The LDS Church must never give in to the demands of Babylon, no matter how persuasive, loud, or powerful the woke mob appears to be.

Conclusion: The Church Will Prevail

The woke cult is a temporary rebellion against God, just as Sodom and Gomorrah were a temporary corruption of civilization. They fell, and so too will this current movement. The Lord’s truth is eternal and will not be changed by the whims of fallen men.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints must remain steadfast in the face of this spiritual war. If we hold fast to the iron rod, if we refuse to bow to the woke mob, and if we continue to teach and live by God’s commandments, then we will prevail—just as the righteous always have.

Let the woke world mock. Let Babylon rage. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15).
