The contradictions of identity often manifest most glaringly in individuals who attempt to straddle two irreconcilable value systems. One such example is the Afghan-Iranian-American Hazara girl who indulges in Western freedoms—drinking alcohol, smoking tobacco, using marijuana, dressing provocatively, and engaging in promiscuous behavior—while her mother remains a devout Shia Muslim who abhors such behaviors, even going so far as to despise dogs. This paradoxical existence highlights the hypocrisy of those who embrace Western decadence while simultaneously defending Islamic conservatism and its oppressive rules.
Selective Morality: Wanting Freedom Without Accountability
Islamic teachings, particularly within Shia Islam, explicitly condemn alcohol consumption, smoking, and fornication. The Quran states:
"O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful." (Quran 5:90)
Yet, many young Muslim women who migrate or grow up in the West ignore these religious prohibitions when they find pleasure in alcohol, drugs, or promiscuity. They enjoy the liberties that Western societies provide while still attempting to maintain a veneer of cultural and religious righteousness when it serves their personal narratives. They want to invoke “Islamophobia” when criticized yet disregard Islamic teachings when it benefits them.
Rejecting Islamic Modesty While Defending Hijab Laws
One of the most glaring hypocrisies is the selective approach to modesty. While her devout mother may wear a hijab and condemn Western clothing styles as "immoral," the daughter chooses to dress in revealing outfits, defying Islamic mandates. The Quran explicitly states:
"And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to reveal their adornments except what normally appears. Let them draw their veils over their chests and not reveal their charms except to their husbands…" (Quran 24:31)
Yet, this modern Hazara-American woman rejects the Islamic dress code while simultaneously defending Iran’s morality police or Islamic modesty laws in general. This level of cognitive dissonance is evident in many liberal Muslims in the West, who demand that non-Muslims respect hijab while not abiding by Islamic rules themselves.
The Hatred of Dogs: A Reflection of Islamic Supremacism
A particularly bizarre hypocrisy in this scenario is the mother’s disdain for dogs, a sentiment rooted in Islamic doctrine. Hadiths explicitly state that angels do not enter a house where there is a dog (Sahih Muslim 2105), and Islamic law considers them impure (najis). Yet, the daughter—while indulging in Western values—remains indifferent to her mother’s aversion to an animal widely loved in Christian, Western, and Iranian Zoroastrian cultures.
Iranian civilization historically revered dogs as sacred animals in Zoroastrianism, considering them protectors against evil spirits. It was Islamic conquest that imposed dog-hatred on the region. If this Hazara woman truly respected her Iranian heritage, she would recognize that Islam imposed an unnatural, foreign, and oppressive doctrine upon her culture.
Western Hedonism and Islamic Victimhood: A Double Standard
Perhaps the most striking contradiction is how women like this Hazara girl portray themselves as oppressed victims of Western society while actively engaging in all the freedoms it grants them. They claim Islam is a peaceful and moral religion, yet they reject its rules in their personal lives. They demand respect for their religious identity but are unwilling to adhere to its fundamental tenets. This exposes a broader phenomenon where many Muslims in the West exploit victimhood narratives to shield themselves from scrutiny while benefiting from Western liberties.
Conclusion: Embrace Western Values or Islamic Conservatism—You Can’t Have Both
The Hazara girl who drinks, smokes, and engages in Western hedonism while her mother remains a staunch, anti-Western, dog-hating Shia Muslim is a microcosm of the larger Islamic contradiction in the West. You cannot demand respect for Islamic customs while living in open defiance of them. Either accept the moral responsibility that comes with freedom or abide by Sharia’s restrictions. You cannot cherry-pick values to suit your convenience while crying “Islamophobia” when called out for your hypocrisy.
The Western world should recognize these contradictions for what they are: attempts to manipulate tolerance while refusing to fully assimilate. Until individuals like this Hazara woman acknowledge that their selective morality is untenable, they will remain trapped in an identity crisis—reaping the benefits of the West while pretending to uphold the values of a system they have long abandoned.
