Why President Trump’s Stand on Recognizing Only Two Genders is a Victory for Truth and Reality

The recent announcement by President Trump that the U.S. government will recognize only two genders — male and female — resonates with me on a deeply personal level. I was raised in a different worldview, born in Iran and growing up under Islamic law, where rigid categories were often enforced without discussion, albeit for reasons grounded in a different ideology. My journey in America has been equally transformative, including my involvement in movements and beliefs I have since left behind, from Islam and socialism to veganism and even Democratic politics. Yet, the divisive cultural battles of today have underscored something that’s becoming increasingly rare: leaders who are willing to stand up for truth in the face of widespread ideological pressure. Trump's decision to affirm the biological truth of two genders is a necessary corrective against the dangerous delusions of gender ideology.

Understanding the Issue: Reality vs. Ideology

The insistence on recognizing two genders is not a novel concept but one rooted in biological and physiological reality. Human beings, like most species, are born with two possible configurations of chromosomes that result in male or female sex characteristics. Though there are rare cases of intersex individuals, these are biological exceptions rather than a new spectrum. For centuries, this understanding has formed the foundation of human identity, culture, and even legal systems. However, the rise of modern gender theory, which asserts that gender is entirely separate from biological sex, has sought to disrupt this foundation with little regard for objective reality.

As someone who has worked in civil rights and dealt firsthand with the consequences of unchecked ideologies, I understand how dangerous it can be when truth becomes subordinate to belief. In my years as the executive director of CAIR-Columbus and the president of the Muslim Forum of Utah, I witnessed how identity politics can become a tool for social manipulation and division. Ideologies, whether religious or social, can exert powerful influences on individuals, often to the detriment of individual autonomy and reason.

The Real Impact of Gender Ideology on Society

Gender ideology may seem compassionate at first glance, promising a world of inclusivity where everyone can define themselves however they wish. However, the practical consequences have been far from inclusive. Allowing men who self-identify as women into women's sports, for example, has undermined decades of progress made by female athletes, as they are now being forced to compete against biological males with inherent physical advantages. Further, children in schools are being taught gender fluidity as fact rather than theory, which has led to confusion, mental health crises, and an increase in gender dysphoria diagnoses among young people who might otherwise be free to develop naturally without external pressures.

One of the most troubling aspects of gender ideology is its impact on children. Encouraging children to adopt new identities and even undergo hormone treatments or surgeries as minors is a deeply irresponsible approach to youth mental health. Studies have shown that many young people with gender dysphoria find relief from these feelings after puberty if given time to grow and develop without interferenceowledging this, many advocates for gender ideology prioritize immediate affirmation, risking the long-term well-being of impressionable young minds.

Why Gender Matters to American Society and Its Values

President Trump's policy stands as a critical reminder that American values, especially those rooted in reason and tradition, are worth defending. The United States was founded on principles that respect individual liberties, but these liberties have always been balanced by a respect for truth. As an Iranian-American who escaped the dogma of authoritarianism, I am intimately familiar with the consequences of ideology unchecked by reality. When societies ignore biological truths, they start to impose policies and beliefs that may ultimately destabilize their very foundations. Recognizing only two genders is not about denying anyone’s dignity but about preserving a societal framework that honors truth, stability, and common sense.

Returning to a Science-Based Standard

Gender theory often dismisses science in favor of subjective experience, but policies should not be based solely on feelings. The Constitution guarantees freedom, yet it also implies that freedom must operate within the bounds of reality. Upholding the biological binary is a step toward maintaining a standard that can reliably guide policy and protect individual rights. This binary does not undermine the dignity of those who identify as transgender or nonbinary, but it places a limit on what government will recognize for practical purposes, preserving the rights and privacy of others.

Conclusion

As someone who has witnessed and even participated in movements that sought to redefine various aspects of society, I see the recognition of two genders as a stand for truth over ideology. By affirming that there are only two genders, President Trump is choosing reality over subjective identity politics. This is not about erasing identities but about reaffirming a standard that ensures clarity, stability, and protection for all.

In a time when many institutions are compromising on fundamental truths, it is refreshing to see a return to a grounded, science-based approach. For the sake of future generations, it is vital that we re-establish a clear understanding of gender, rooted in biology, that can guide our society with reason and compassion. America deserves leaders who respect science and reality, and President Trump's decision to uphold this standard is a crucial step in the right direction.
