The Wisdom of President Donald J. Trump: Protecting the Integrity of the U.S. Military by Expelling Transgender Individuals

As an Iranian-American ex-Muslim and former leader within Islamic and progressive circles, I have undergone a profound transformation in my worldview. My journey from being a socialist and advocate of liberal ideologies to embracing conservative Christian principles and the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has given me a unique perspective on modern socio-political issues. Among these, the role of President Donald J. Trump in restoring common sense to America’s military stands as a remarkable testament to his leadership.

The military is, and must always remain, an institution grounded in discipline, readiness, and unity. It is not a platform for social experiments, political agendas, or the redefinition of gender. By deciding to exclude transgender individuals from serving in the armed forces, President Trump has prioritized military effectiveness, cohesion, and the well-being of service members over politically motivated policies.

The Reality of Transgender Inclusion in the Military

The decision to allow transgender individuals to serve in the military, a policy introduced during the Obama administration, was heavily criticized by military leaders and rank-and-file members. A 2016 study commissioned by the Department of Defense estimated that accommodating transgender troops would cost up to $8.4 million annually for transition-related medical treatments and surgeries (RAND Corporation, 2016). This is funding that could be redirected toward training, equipment, and resources critical for national defense.

Beyond financial considerations, the physical and psychological demands of military service are incompatible with the medical requirements and potential instability that often accompany gender transition. According to a 2014 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, nearly 40% of transgender individuals experience severe mental health issues, including depression and anxiety (Budge, Adelson, & Howard, 2014). These challenges compromise the ability of service members to perform under extreme conditions.

Cohesion and Readiness Above All

Military cohesion relies on trust, unity, and shared purpose among soldiers. The presence of individuals undergoing complex medical treatments, or whose identities may become a source of division, jeopardizes these critical elements. This is not to diminish the humanity or dignity of transgender individuals but to recognize the unique and uncompromising mission of the armed forces: to defend the nation at all costs.

President Trump’s stance is reminiscent of the ancient wisdom espoused by civilizations that understood the importance of readiness and resilience in war. As an Iranian-American, I reflect on the Alani Christians who resisted Islamic imperialism with unwavering resolve. Their success was rooted in a disciplined and united force—a lesson history repeatedly underscores.

A Biblical and Constitutional Foundation

As a Christian conservative, I believe that God created man and woman in His image, assigning them distinct roles and purposes (Genesis 1:27). The blending or erasure of these roles undermines not only biblical teachings but also the moral and social fabric of our nation. President Trump’s policy aligns with these principles, ensuring that the military does not become complicit in endorsing ideologies contrary to our Judeo-Christian heritage.

Furthermore, the Constitution mandates that the government prioritize the general welfare and national defense. By removing policies that compromise military effectiveness, President Trump has reaffirmed his commitment to these foundational responsibilities.

Courage in the Face of Opposition

President Trump’s decision to expel transgender individuals from the military was met with predictable outrage from leftist activists and mainstream media outlets. However, true leadership requires the courage to make decisions that are right, even if unpopular. This policy reflects a commitment to protecting the United States from threats, both external and internal, by ensuring our military remains strong, capable, and focused on its core mission.

Conclusion

President Donald J. Trump has once again demonstrated his dedication to the principles that make America great. By prioritizing the needs of the military over the demands of political correctness, he has safeguarded the strength and unity of our armed forces. As a Christian conservative Iranian-American, I applaud his leadership and encourage all Americans to support policies that preserve the integrity of our nation’s most vital institutions.
