Muslims Who Voted for Trump: Misplaced Outrage Over Pro-Israel Policies
By Bobby Darvish, Iranian-American Ex-Muslim, Former Vegan, Former Democrat, Former Socialist, Former CAIR-Columbus Executive Director, Former Muslim Forum of Utah President, Christian Conservative LDS
As an Iranian-American and former Muslim who has seen firsthand the toxic duplicity of Islamist politics, I am unsurprised by the growing number of Muslims in America who voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020 but now express outrage over his pro-Israel policies. Their reaction, especially to his appointment of staunchly pro-Israel cabinet members like David Friedman and Mike Pompeo, exposes an alarming truth: their allegiance often lies not with the United States but with anti-American, terrorist-affiliated ideologies like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Root of the Outrage
The anger these Muslim Trump voters feel stems from a fundamental contradiction. Many backed Trump for his conservative stances on issues like family values, economic growth, and opposition to radical leftism, yet they harbor deep resentment against his unwavering support for Israel. Their opposition to Israel isn’t rooted in mere political disagreement—it’s rooted in their ideological alignment with groups and regimes that openly call for the destruction of both Israel and America.
Organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah are internationally recognized terrorist groups. Hamas, the ruling entity in Gaza, uses its territory not to uplift Palestinians but to launch rockets at Israeli civilians. Hezbollah, a proxy of Iran, seeks to expand Iranian dominance across the Middle East while stockpiling weapons to attack Israel. The Islamic Republic of Iran, meanwhile, chants "Death to America" alongside "Death to Israel," and it funds terrorism worldwide.
When Muslims in America criticize Trump’s support for Israel, they often reveal their own sympathies for these dangerous entities. This is not a difference of opinion; it is an existential threat to American democracy and security.
Islamists’ Parasitic Hostile Strategy
The behavior of many Islamist groups and their supporters in America mirrors a parasitic relationship. They exploit the freedoms, resources, and protections of their host country while working to undermine its core values and alliances. Just as they aim to destroy Israel, they also aim to weaken America from within, whether by promoting "Islamophobia" narratives to silence critics or by infiltrating political movements to push their anti-Western agendas.
Their demands for Trump to abandon his pro-Israel stance are hypocritical and dangerous. America’s alliance with Israel is a cornerstone of its foreign policy, not just for moral reasons but for strategic ones. Israel is a vital ally in the fight against global terrorism, sharing intelligence and technology that save American lives.
Trump’s Cabinet: A Defense of Freedom
President Trump’s choice to surround himself with pro-Israel advisors like David Friedman, who supported moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, was a bold and necessary move. It sent a clear message: America stands with its allies and will not be intimidated by terrorists or their sympathizers.
As someone who once led Islamist organizations like CAIR and the Muslim Forum of Utah, I know how these groups operate. They use democratic systems to erode them from within, and they employ lies and victim narratives to distract from their true goals. Muslims who supported Trump yet now criticize him for being pro-Israel should be reminded that America is not a tool to advance Islamist goals. Their loyalty must be to the Constitution, not Hamas or Hezbollah.
Israel and America: Defending Western Civilization
The survival of Israel and America are deeply intertwined. Both nations represent bastions of freedom and democracy in a world increasingly threatened by authoritarianism and terrorism. If Muslim Trump voters cannot reconcile themselves to this fact, they have no business influencing U.S. policy.
As an ex-Muslim who now embraces Christianity and conservatism, I urge President Trump and his allies to stand firm. Do not placate those who oppose the values that make America great. Islamist sympathizers will never be satisfied until Israel is wiped off the map and America follows.
Conclusion
The outrage from Muslim Trump voters over his pro-Israel policies is a reflection of their own divided loyalties. America cannot afford to cater to those who sympathize with its enemies. It is time to call out the hypocrisy and demand that those who enjoy the blessings of American freedom defend, rather than undermine, the values and alliances that sustain it.
