Why Iranian-Americans Voted for Trump in 2024

The 2024 presidential election marked a watershed moment for Iranian-Americans. The overwhelming support for Donald J. Trump by members of our community caught many political pundits off guard. However, for those of us who have lived the Iranian-American experience and watched the sociopolitical shifts in the United States, the reasons were crystal clear.

As an Iranian-American who has journeyed from theocratic oppression in Iran to political awakening in America, I understand why so many of my compatriots rallied behind Trump. Many of us voted for him not out of blind loyalty to a party or ideology but because his policies aligned with the values we hold dear: freedom, national security, economic opportunity, and opposition to globalist agendas that threaten the unique fabric of America.

1. Standing Against Islamic Theocracy and Tyranny

Iranian-Americans, many of whom fled the brutality of the Islamic Republic, know firsthand the dangers of appeasing regimes like Tehran. Under the Biden administration, we saw a disastrous revival of the Iran nuclear deal, which emboldened the mullahs and enriched their terrorist proxies.

Trump’s strong stance against the Islamic Republic, including the targeted killing of Qasem Soleimani, sent a clear message: the United States would not bow to the threats of tyrants. This decisive action resonated deeply with Iranian-Americans who lost loved ones to the regime’s brutality. Unlike Biden, Trump understood that peace comes through strength, not capitulation.

2. Preserving American Values Against Marxism

Having escaped the clutches of Islamic totalitarianism, many Iranian-Americans were horrified by the rise of Marxist ideologies in the United States, championed by progressive Democrats. As someone who was once a socialist, I recognized these trends early. The far-left’s push for identity politics, cancel culture, and economic collectivism reminded me of the oppressive ideologies that destroyed Iran’s vibrant middle class.

Trump’s America-first policies and rejection of woke dogma offered a stark contrast to the cultural revolution brewing under Democratic leadership. Iranian-Americans, who cherish individual freedoms, family values, and economic self-determination, found a natural ally in Trump.

3. Economic Prosperity and Job Creation

The Iranian-American community has thrived in sectors like technology, entrepreneurship, and medicine. Trump’s tax cuts and deregulation created an environment where small businesses could flourish. Under his leadership, unemployment among minorities, including Iranian-Americans, reached historic lows.

In contrast, the Biden administration’s inflationary spending and restrictive policies hurt small businesses. Many Iranian-American entrepreneurs, myself included, felt the financial strain under Democratic economic mismanagement. Voting for Trump in 2024 was a vote to restore the economic stability we had experienced during his first term.

4. Protecting Religious Freedom

As a Christian conservative and a member of the LDS Church, I have experienced firsthand the importance of religious liberty in America. Iranian-Americans who converted from Islam to Christianity or other faiths understand the existential threat posed by the global spread of Sharia-based ideologies.

Trump’s administration championed religious freedom, standing against policies that threatened to erode these rights. In stark contrast, the Democratic Party, allied with Islamist groups like CAIR, often prioritized the demands of Islamists over the rights of ex-Muslims and Christian converts. For many Iranian-American Christians, Trump was the only candidate who stood up for their beliefs.

5. A Rejection of Globalism

Iranian-Americans understand the dangers of globalist policies better than most. The Islamic Republic itself is a product of a globalist alliance that exploited Iranian sovereignty for geopolitical gain. Similarly, many of us see the Democratic Party’s push for open borders, climate accords that undermine American energy independence, and foreign entanglements as detrimental to America’s future.

Trump’s focus on American sovereignty and his opposition to globalist organizations like the United Nations resonated deeply with Iranian-Americans who value national identity and independence.

Conclusion

In 2024, Iranian-Americans overwhelmingly voted for Trump because he represented the values we hold dear: freedom from tyranny, rejection of Marxism, economic opportunity, religious liberty, and national sovereignty. Our votes were not just for a man but for the preservation of the American dream—a dream that many of us fled oppression to embrace.

The mainstream media may never understand our decision. They will label us as traitors to their progressive ideals. But as someone who has lived under Islamic dictatorship, embraced and then rejected socialism, and found freedom in the principles of conservatism, I can say with confidence that our choice was the right one. We voted for Trump because we voted for America.
