As an Iranian-American, ex-Muslim, former Imam, and now a proud Christian conservative capitalist Republican, I’ve experienced firsthand the powerful forces of ideological conflict. From my time leading the Muslim Forum of Utah and serving as the Executive Director of CAIR-Columbus, to my ultimate rejection of Islam and embrace of the freedom offered by Christianity, my journey has given me a unique perspective on the importance of strong conservative leadership. One such leader I am proud to endorse is Rachelle Morris, the current candidate for Salt Lake County Council.

As someone who has lived under theocratic rule and socialist economic policies in my native Iran, I know how dangerous big government can be. I’ve seen firsthand how bureaucratic control suffocates innovation, restricts personal freedoms, and strangles economic growth. Utah, especially Silicon Slopes, cannot afford to fall into the trap of progressive overregulation. That’s why we need someone like Rachelle Morris, who understands the importance of maintaining a business-friendly environment.
The Silicon Slopes tech sector is the embodiment of American exceptionalism, thriving under capitalism and the entrepreneurial spirit that has made this country great. It’s a place where innovation meets opportunity, and where businesses can succeed based on merit. Rachelle Morris is committed to protecting this environment, ensuring that tech companies, startups, and investors continue to see Utah as a safe haven for their economic ambitions.

As a former Imam and ex-Muslim, I’ve seen how Islamic doctrines stifle personal and economic freedoms. Sharia-based systems, much like socialist ideologies, centralize power and control, often destroying the potential for individual and collective prosperity. In contrast, capitalism—rooted in Judeo-Christian values—offers the greatest opportunities for human flourishing. It’s this system that Rachelle Morris seeks to preserve and promote in Salt Lake County.
The tech sector in Silicon Slopes needs leaders who understand the delicate balance between governance and freedom. Too much government interference, whether through taxes, regulations, or unnecessary oversight, will harm not only the businesses that have made Silicon Slopes a success but also the people who depend on those jobs and opportunities. Morris knows this and has the vision to ensure that Salt Lake County remains a place where business can thrive.
