Critical thinking is an indispensable tool for navigating the complex moral and ideological landscape of our time. In a world increasingly dominated by woke cultist ideology, it is imperative that we, as Conservative Christians, exercise discernment to preserve the values and morals that have sustained families and communities for generations. This is particularly important in Utah, a state that holds a unique place in the tapestry of American conservatism but is now under siege by forces that seek to transform it into a mirror image of San Francisco—a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah.
The Threat to Utah’s Conservative Identity
As an Iranian-American who once walked the path of leftism, socialism, and even Islamic leadership, I recognize the subtle but insidious strategies being used to erode Utah’s conservative values. The influx of progressive ideologies, carried in part by transplants from California, threatens to destabilize the foundation of this state. The radical LGBTQ agenda, combined with efforts to secularize and politicize the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), aims to undermine the very morals that make Utah a bastion of faith and family values.
I used to stand on the other side of this divide. As a Democrat, a Socialist, and a Muslim leader, I believed in many of the principles that the woke movement espouses today. But my journey away from these ideologies was not just a rejection of their premises—it was an awakening to the harm they cause. The woke cult thrives on victimhood narratives, moral relativism, and a disdain for traditional values, all of which are antithetical to the teachings of Christ and the principles of conservative thought.
My Journey to the LDS Church
Ironically, my path to Christianity and conservatism was facilitated by some of the very critics of the LDS Church. Dr. John Dehlin of Mormon Stories Podcast and the progressive reporting of The Salt Lake Tribune inadvertently became my greatest teachers. Their relentless critiques of the Church’s doctrines, history, and policies only deepened my interest in what they sought to vilify.
As I delved deeper, I began to see the beauty and truth in the Church’s teachings. What others derided as outdated or oppressive, I recognized as principled and protective of human dignity. The Church’s emphasis on family, self-reliance, and community resonated with my newfound understanding of the world. I owe a strange debt of gratitude to these critics for guiding me to the faith and values I now cherish.
Critical Thinking as a Weapon Against Woke Ideology
Critical thinking requires us to question the narratives we are fed, especially those that seek to dismantle our beliefs. The woke cult operates much like the ideologies I once embraced—it silences dissent, punishes independent thought, and weaponizes identity politics. By promoting concepts like “toxic masculinity,” “white privilege,” and “gender fluidity,” it creates confusion and division where there should be unity and clarity.
For example, the radical LGBTQ agenda in Utah is not about coexistence but dominance. It seeks to infiltrate every aspect of society, including the Church, to impose its ideology. This is not equality—it is coercion. And while the woke left claims to champion tolerance, it has no tolerance for those who adhere to traditional Christian morals.
Lessons from My Past
Having been a socialist, a liberal, and a Muslim leader, I am intimately familiar with the tactics used to suppress critical thinking. Islam, for instance, discourages questioning its doctrines, branding dissenters as heretics. Similarly, socialism thrives on groupthink, demanding loyalty to the collective over individual liberty. These systems are remarkably similar to the woke ideology that now threatens Utah.
But I am also living proof that people can change. I have walked away from ideologies that once defined my identity because I dared to ask hard questions and seek real answers. It is this same spirit of inquiry that can help us defend our values against the woke assault.
A Call to Action
Utahns, especially members of the LDS Church, must stand firm. We must use critical thinking to expose the lies and contradictions of woke ideology. We must teach our children the importance of faith, family, and freedom. And we must support leaders and institutions that uphold conservative principles.
To the Californians who have moved here, I say this: if you fled the dysfunction of your home state, do not bring the same ideologies that destroyed it to Utah. Respect the culture and values of this state, or risk losing the refuge you sought.
To those within the LDS Church who feel tempted by progressive narratives, I encourage you to study the scriptures and teachings of the prophets. The Church is not perfect because its members are not perfect, but its principles are divinely inspired. Do not let the critics and agitators lead you astray.
Conclusion
Critical thinking saved me from a life of ideological bondage, and it can save Utah from the woke cult. By standing together as Conservative Christians, we can preserve the morals and values that have made this state and this nation great. Let us reject the lies of the woke agenda and embrace the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
