The Iranic Scythians Were Not Turks, The Turks Killed The Iranic Scythians

The Iranic Scythians Were Not Turks, The Turks Killed The Iranic Scythians

The notion that Turks and Scythians are the same or closely related is a misconception. The Scythians were an ancient nomadic people of Iranian origin who lived in the Eurasian steppes from around the 9th century BCE to the 2nd century CE. Their culture and linguistic roots were distinct from those of the Turkic peoples, who emerged later in Central Asia. The decline of the Scythian empire began with invasions by other nomadic groups, including the Sarmatians and later the Huns, ancestors of various Turkic tribes (Encyclopedia Britannica) .

The Turks, historically, are known for their role in the downfall of the Scythians. The Turkic migrations and invasions into the Scythian territories contributed significantly to the latter's decline. By the time the Turkic tribes started to expand, the Scythians had already been weakened by previous conflicts and invasions. This historical conflict highlights that the Turks were distinct from the Scythians and were, in fact, one of the groups responsible for their eventual downfall (Encyclopedia Britannica) .
