Russia After Communism: Capitalism, Christianity, and the Ignorance of American Democrats

The fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 was supposed to mark a new era for Russia—a transition from the tyranny of communism to the prosperity of capitalism. In many ways, that transition was difficult, but Russia today is a capitalist, Christian, white, and largely traditionalist nation. Despite this, American Democrats remain willfully ignorant of modern Russia, continuing to treat it as though it were still the Soviet Union, while embracing real communist threats such as China and socialist policies within their own party. The United States should recognize that Russia, a nation with shared economic and cultural values, is a natural ally, rather than continuing the baseless hostility pushed by the American left.

The Rise of Capitalism in Post-Soviet Russia

After seven decades under the iron grip of communism, the Soviet Union collapsed, leaving Russia in economic and political turmoil. The 1990s were a difficult decade, with rampant inflation, the rise of oligarchs, and economic instability. However, by the early 2000s, with strong leadership, Russia stabilized its economy, embraced free markets, and saw a resurgence of national pride.

Russia’s economic reforms included mass privatization of state-owned enterprises, reduction of central planning, and integration into global markets. While some challenges persist, today Russia operates as a capitalist economy, complete with private businesses, competition, and a stock market. According to the World Bank, Russia’s GDP has grown significantly since the collapse of communism, and it is now one of the world’s largest economies, driven by industries such as energy, technology, and manufacturing (World Bank, 2023).

Yet, despite its transformation, Democrats continue to frame Russia as a "communist" threat while promoting socialist policies in America, such as wealth redistribution, universal healthcare, and government overreach—all of which mirror the failures of the Soviet Union.

Russia: A Christian and Traditional Nation

One of the most striking aspects of modern Russia is its return to Christianity. After decades of militant atheism under communism, the Russian Orthodox Church has experienced a massive revival, with over 70% of Russians identifying as Orthodox Christians (Pew Research Center, 2017). Churches have been rebuilt, religious education has expanded, and Russian leaders openly embrace Christianity as a core part of their nation’s identity.

Unlike the United States, where leftists push for the removal of Christianity from public life, Russia embraces Christian values and openly opposes radical secularism. This should be a point of common ground between conservative Americans and Russians, yet the Democratic Party, which increasingly demonizes Christianity and promotes atheism, fails to see it.

A Nation That Defends Traditional Values

Russia is also one of the few major powers that has resisted the leftist cultural revolution that has swept through Western nations. While Democrats in America push radical gender ideology, same-sex marriage, and LGBTQ propaganda in schools, Russia has taken a firm stand in defense of traditional family values. In 2013, Russia passed laws banning the promotion of LGBTQ propaganda to minors, a move that enraged the global left but was widely supported by Russian citizens.

The leftist media portrays this as "authoritarian," but in reality, Russia is simply rejecting the forced cultural shifts that have eroded the moral fabric of Western societies. Russian President Vladimir Putin has explicitly stated that traditional family values are the foundation of a strong nation, echoing sentiments that many American conservatives share (RT, 2022).

The Hypocrisy of the American Left

While Democrats demonize Russia as a global threat, they ignore actual communist and authoritarian regimes like China, which operates forced labor camps, engages in massive censorship, and actively undermines American interests. Unlike Russia, which has embraced capitalism and national sovereignty, China remains a communist dictatorship that exploits its workers and engages in human rights abuses.

Yet, the American left has no problem doing business with China. The Biden administration refuses to hold China accountable for its role in the COVID-19 pandemic, its threats against Taiwan, and its blatant intellectual property theft. Instead, Democrats continue their absurd fixation on "Russian interference," despite having no substantial evidence to back their claims (Mueller Report, 2019).

Moreover, Democrats and their media allies hypocritically accuse Russia of election interference while ignoring their own history of meddling in foreign elections. From the CIA-backed coups of the Cold War era to the Obama administration’s interference in Israeli politics, the U.S. has been involved in far more direct election manipulation than Russia ever has.

Russia: A Natural Ally for America

Instead of continuing the Cold War mindset, the United States should view Russia as a potential ally against the real threats of the 21st century—namely, communist China and Islamic extremism. Russia is a Christian nation with shared economic interests, a strong military, and a commitment to preserving Western civilization.

Despite leftist rhetoric, Russia does not seek global communist domination, nor does it push woke ideology onto other nations. It simply defends its national interests, just as the United States should. Yet, Democrats, blinded by ideological hatred, refuse to recognize this reality.

If conservatives and Republicans take back power, they should work to build a better relationship with Russia based on mutual respect, economic cooperation, and shared cultural values. The endless demonization of Russia serves no purpose other than to advance the left’s globalist agenda while ignoring the true threats to Western civilization.

Conclusion

Russia’s post-Soviet transformation has proven that capitalism, Christianity, and national sovereignty are the keys to success. It is a nation that should be an ally of the United States, yet the American left refuses to acknowledge this, preferring to coddle communist China and promote failed socialist policies at home.

The Democratic Party’s ignorance of modern Russia is a testament to their ideological blindness and hypocrisy. It is time for conservatives to lead the charge in reevaluating America’s stance toward Russia and recognizing that in the fight for Western civilization, Russia is not the enemy—the radical left is.
