Tim Ballard is Innocent: The Truth About the Lawsuit Against a Hero

By Bobby Darvish, Iranian-American Ex-Muslim, Former Vegan, Former Democrat, Former Socialist, Former CAIR-Columbus Executive Director, Former Muslim Forum of Utah President, Christian Conservative LDS

As an Iranian-American ex-Muslim who has experienced the oppressive tactics of tyrannical regimes, I’ve come to value the principles of truth, justice, and accountability. These ideals form the foundation of my faith as a Christian Conservative Latter-day Saint (LDS) and guide my reflections on the controversies surrounding Tim Ballard. Recently, Ballard, a man celebrated for his relentless fight against child trafficking, issued his first legal response to a sexual misconduct lawsuit that threatens to tarnish his reputation.

This case, with its suspicious timing and potentially defamatory undertones, raises questions not only about the integrity of the claims but also about the broader cultural and political climate in which it exists. As someone who has worked within leadership roles, including as the former executive director of CAIR-Columbus and president of the Muslim Forum of Utah, I know firsthand how easily false narratives can be constructed to discredit individuals challenging powerful interests.

A Hero Under Fire

Tim Ballard is best known for his leadership of Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.), an organization dedicated to combating child sex trafficking. His work, including the recent film Sound of Freedom, has not only brought attention to this global atrocity but also painted a target on his back. Anyone who challenges human trafficking networks—a multi-billion-dollar industry—should anticipate backlash. History shows us that powerful cartels, corrupt entities, and ideological enemies do not hesitate to deploy smear campaigns when their interests are threatened.

Ballard’s detractors allege that he engaged in sexual misconduct under the guise of his work with O.U.R. However, the evidence presented thus far remains unsubstantiated. Ballard has categorically denied the allegations, and his legal team is working to clear his name. This lawsuit appears to be less about justice and more about discrediting a man who has shone light on darkness. It is not the first time that those fighting against entrenched evil have been targeted, and it certainly won’t be the last.

The Broader Cultural Battle

The accusations against Ballard must also be understood in the context of America’s broader culture war. Ballard’s conservative, faith-driven approach to fighting trafficking has made him a polarizing figure. He embodies values that the progressive elite often vilify—Christian faith, family, patriotism, and a belief in moral absolutes. It is no coincidence that these allegations surfaced at the height of Ballard’s prominence, following the widespread success of Sound of Freedom.

This case echoes tactics I’ve seen in my own life. During my tenure as executive director of CAIR-Columbus, I witnessed how organizations and individuals could fabricate allegations to silence dissent or tarnish reputations. It is a pattern that follows anyone who dares to challenge powerful systems, whether they be human trafficking networks or political machines.

The Principle of Presumption of Innocence

In a civilized society, individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty. This foundational principle must apply to Ballard. Unfortunately, in today’s media landscape, accusations often serve as convictions in the court of public opinion. This rush to judgment denies individuals their right to due process and undermines the integrity of our justice system.

As a former vegan and socialist turned Christian conservative, I’ve seen how narratives can be weaponized to manipulate public opinion. Ballard’s legal response demonstrates his commitment to confronting these allegations head-on. His willingness to address these claims in court, rather than through media spectacle, should speak volumes about his character.

Conclusion

Tim Ballard is innocent until proven otherwise, and he deserves a fair opportunity to defend himself. The timing, nature, and context of these allegations demand scrutiny. As Christians, conservatives, and defenders of justice, we must resist the temptation to join the mob and instead uphold the values that make our society just and fair.

This case is about more than Tim Ballard—it is about whether we, as a society, will allow baseless allegations to destroy the lives of those who stand against evil. I, Bobby Darvish, stand in solidarity with Tim Ballard and encourage others to seek the truth rather than accept the lies of a corrupted world.
