By Bobby Darvish, Iranian-American Ex-Muslim, Former Vegan, Former Democrat, Former Socialist, Former CAIR-Columbus Executive Director, Former Muslim Forum of Utah President, Christian Conservative LDS
When I took on the role of Executive Director at CAIR-Columbus, I believed I was contributing to a noble cause. I envisioned fostering understanding and cooperation between Muslims and the broader American community. However, my time at CAIR revealed a far darker reality—one marred by racism, Arab supremacism, and ideological bigotry that contradicted the organization's purported mission of promoting justice and inclusivity.
I first encountered overt discrimination from certain Arab Palestinian and Egyptian members of CAIR, who labeled me a "mutt." These derogatory remarks were rooted in their perception that I, as an Iranian-American, was not "purely" Aryan or Iranic due to historical Arab influence in Iran. Such comments exemplify the deep-seated Arab supremacist attitudes within CAIR, particularly in chapters like Chicago and San Francisco. Screenshots and Facebook messages captured their remarks, serving as irrefutable evidence of their blatant racism.
These experiences were not isolated incidents. Rather, they reflected a systemic problem within CAIR's culture. Behind closed doors, CAIR operates as an Arab-dominated organization that marginalizes non-Arab Muslims and views them as lesser contributors to the Islamic narrative. This is particularly true of Iranian-Americans like myself, whose heritage and contributions are routinely dismissed. My DNA tests, conducted extensively since 2010, have only bolstered my pride in my Iranic heritage. They confirmed the depth of my ancestral connection to the Scythian, Sarmatian, and Cimmerian peoples—proud, freedom-loving Iranic tribes that resisted domination for centuries. This heritage stands in stark contrast to the Arab supremacist narratives perpetuated by CAIR.
What makes this hypocrisy even more glaring is CAIR's alignment with extremist ideologies. The organization's founders have well-documented connections to Hamas, a terrorist organization responsible for countless acts of violence. CAIR has effectively become "Hamas USA," spreading anti-Semitic propaganda, promoting Islamic bigotry, and actively working against the interests of the American people. Its anti-Iranian and anti-white rhetoric is part of a broader agenda to undermine Western and non-Arab identities.
My departure from CAIR in 2010 marked the beginning of my journey to reclaim my identity and break free from the shackles of Islam. By 2019, I had fully embraced Christianity, recognizing its message of universal love and redemption as the antithesis of the hate-filled doctrines I had witnessed at CAIR. As a Christian Conservative LDS, I now have the clarity and conviction to call out CAIR for what it truly is—a racist, bigoted organization that seeks to divide rather than unite.
The recorded messages and screenshots I collected during my time at CAIR serve as a testament to the organization's hypocrisy. While CAIR claims to combat Islamophobia, it simultaneously perpetuates racism, Arab chauvinism, and anti-Iranian sentiment. It is my hope that by sharing my experiences, I can shed light on the true nature of CAIR and empower others to stand against its toxic influence.
In hindsight, the derogatory remarks I endured from CAIR members were a blessing in disguise. They opened my eyes to the organization's underlying motives and gave me the strength to walk away. Today, I am proud to stand as an Iranian-American ex-Muslim, a Christian Conservative LDS, and a defender of truth and justice. My journey has come full circle, and I now use my voice to expose the lies and corruption within organizations like CAIR, ensuring that their bigotry is no longer hidden from public scrutiny.
