Movie Review: "Inception" starring Leonardo Di Caprio

Just watched this movie with my wife over the weekend, it is very thought provoking and forward thinking.  However, it all depends on how this kind of potential idea could be used.  There are a lot of speculation on the usage of such a technology (that does not exist at the present time) if it was to become a reality in some form or another.  It somewhat reminds me of the movie "Minority Report" with "Pre-Crime", however it is different.

Inception is a 2010 American science fiction-action film that was written, produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gorden-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, and Cilian Murphy.  The film is inspired by the concept of "lucid dreaming".  Dom Cobb (DiCaprio) is an "Extractor", who enters the dreams of others to obtain information that is otherwise inaccessible.  This reminds me of the way that we used GUI in order to interact with the information stored in computers that at one time did not have monitors and would only have results printed on punch cards.  Technically we are going from punch cards (human written/spoken method) to laptops in relation to the storage of human memory through accessing visual dreams.

Dom Cobb's abilities have cost him his family, nationality, and almost sanity...however a chance at redeeming himself and being able to regain his old life is something that may be in his grasp, if he and his team of specialists are successful.  His team are hired to plant an idea in a target's subconscious.  This process of planting ideas is what is called "inception".  This concept is a lot less less familiar and far more difficult than Cobb's usual job of "extraction".  

Cobb being an extractor is told that inception will not work, however Cobb says it will because he has done it before.  [spoiler alert] What he fails to mention is the fact that he used it on his own wife!  What is interesting is how much of dreams are our own imagination and how much of them is the person filling the rest in.  Now, this brings me to a point in regards to how we humans see the universe...we know finite space, however we fill in the rest with infinite space that appears to be finite in our idea of it.  We use stars, moons, suns, plants to describe "space".  However, the idea of infinite universe scares us, because we don't know where the event horizon of space is.  If there was an event horizon of space, then it would make us even more curious to find out what's behind that! 

This movie was overall a very well made show with an excellent script and directing.  I was rather amazed at the perfection of timing between the "levels of dreams" that resembled alternate dimensions.  There are many philosophical elements in this movie that should be discussed and pondered on, however I will right more about that later.
